Black Lives Matter . . . The Course Offered at Norfolk State
#BlackLivesMatter, the hashtag activist movement, was created in 2012 after the death of Trayvon Martin at the hand of then neighborhood watch member, George Zimmerman. Zimmerman was later acquitted for his crime. Norfolk State University, in a bold and unprecedented move, will offer a course in the fall of 2016 titled, "Black Lives Matter." Taught by NSU's senior fellow in the Honors College, Dr. Kay Wright Lewis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History and Interdisciplinary Studies. Lewis has a unique style of teaching that is engaging, informative and entertaining. Students will learn about the movement's beginnings, its connect to the Civil Rights Movement of the 50s and 60s and the historical references and connections to other hashtag activism. Additionally, students will understand how the experiences of Black people in this country brought about the #BlackLivesMatter's call to action.

"How do you get the power and authority you need to succeed in life? (Pt.2)
Power and authority can be experienced from many different chanels, most of them coming from what the world has to offer. Can we list them? Well, there is "Self-power" which is the preferred choice for most; there are any number of sources that people will offer you (or sell to you), most of them coming from the world; and, then there is God. I wonder why I listed God last; one of the things that make you go, "Hmmmmm". How many have you chosen and used in your life time?
I see Christianity as being, well, simple! It's people that make it complicated and lessens the impact that Jesus would have us experience. Jesus left planet earth, an environment in which He could be in one place at one time in, order to send the Holy Spirit who could continue to be at many, even all places at once. The result is the beginning of a great mystery namely, that He, Jesus, would dwell in His discipes-always-forever! What a mystery the truth is, to be lived out from all who receive Him and believe Him and the Words He spoke. Difficult to understand perhaps, but wonderful when experienced.
It is precisely this promise from Jesus Christ that empowers us to experience an incredible life of meaning and purpose. Experiencing what this means is where we are heading in this and succeeding programs as we discover how we can answer the question, "Is Trust really all I need?" and, "Where and How do I get the power to live such a life?"
